Transall Tankers is an emerging specialist aerial firefighting organisation, formed in direct response to the increasing scale, complexity and geographic reach of climate-driven fire events. The company is being purpose-built to develop and operate heavy fixed-wing fire suppression capability for Australia and selected international markets, particularly in environments where terrain, distance and limited infrastructure increasingly constrain conventional platforms.
Operating as a standalone entity, Transall Tankers is exclusively focused on the Transall C-160 platform. This focus reflects a deliberate and considered strategy: to take a proven, rugged aircraft and progressively configure, certify and deploy it as a modern aerial firefighting asset capable of operating in remote and high-tempo environments.
Rather than adapting an existing commercial model, Transall Tankers is evolving its capability in parallel with regulatory, operational and mission requirements. This approach ensures the aircraft, systems and operating framework are aligned from the outset, delivering a fit-for-purpose solution designed around the realities of frontline firefighting.
Capability Overview
The Transall C-160 offers a distinct operational advantage. With long-range endurance, heavy-lift capacity and short take-off and landing performance, the aircraft can operate safely from regional and remote airstrips, allowing it to work closer to the fireground. This enables faster turnaround times, greater flexibility and improved effectiveness in challenging conditions.
A defining feature of Transall Tankers’ capability is its world-first fixed-wing tank system, developed in partnership with Queensland-based Helitak Firefighting Equipment. Designed specifically for the C-160 platform, the Helitak FT Series tank integrates directly with the aircraft and enables rapid-fill, high-volume delivery of water and retardant. Built for Australian operating conditions, the system has been developed with a clear focus on reliability, efficiency and performance in the field
Operational Status
Subject to regulatory approval, Transall Tankers is progressing toward full operational readiness with a fleet of four Transall C-160 aircraft.
Once certified, these aircraft will provide agencies and communities with a new fixed-wing firefighting option, capable of supporting operations across Australia and internationally, including Europe and North America.
